A Hands on Approach to Maths!

Here in Scoil Eoin, we feel a hands-on approach is essential if children are to understand mathematical concepts.  Every year we participate in Maths Week activities from Maths Eyes to Maths trails and Izak 9.

Learning about 3D shapes is a great opportunity for a range of hands-on activities that will ensure your students know their cubes from their cuboids and prisms from their pyramids.

Here at Scoil Eoin we love Science!

The pupils get to enjoy science with their class teachers and outside professionals who teach them ways to explore and investigate the world around them.

Lismore Heritage Centre visited our school in February and worked scientifically with the pupils to design structures, examine force on objects, investigate acids, bases and chemical reactions.

This year we participated in the Vex Robotics programme.   VEX Robotics is an exciting and fun programme where school children from 8-18 years learn about Science Technology Engineering Art and Maths (STEAM) while having fun! They design, build, program and compete with their robot in a spectacular competition organised by Dell.

The class of 2020 received an Excellence Award for their project.

3rd & 4th Class paid a visit to the Lifetime Lab in Cork where they participated in hands on science investigations discovering topics such as electricity, magnetism, forces, heat, light and materials.

Our locality has many beautiful walkways where we can explore the flora and fauna.  We visit the riverside Bleach Walkway and Dromkeen Wood.  Dromkeen Wood has a fairy walk and we always enjoy the beautiful bluebells in the summer time.
